Tibbets Brook Park Lake

On August 15th, 33 volunteers from G.A. Fleet and Xylem Inc. participated in a volunteer event at Tibbetts Brook Park Lake in Yonkers, New York. The goal was to remove the invasive species, Water Chestnut, which in recent years has taken over the lake and damaged the local ecosystem.

Xylem and G.A. Fleet had sponsored a grant to Westchester Parks Foundation that included the cost of a mechanical harvester to clean the lake... but it alone was not enough. Volunteers went out in canoes, and waded into the shallow water to pull up the plant from the root, transport it to shore, and dispose of it.

The physically demanding work combined with the efficiency of the mechanical harvester will prevent the Water Chestnut from growing back as densely next year. After a few seasons of work, the water chestnut will be removed for good, and the lake can be used for boating and fishing again.

911 Memorial Plaza

The National September 11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honor to the 2,977 people killed in the terror attacks of 2001 and 1993.

The Plaza created around the Memorial is one of the most sustainable, green plazas ever constructed. But, the Memorial doesn’t receive any government funding, making donations critical to maintaining its operations.

So, on August 22nd, G.A. Fleet and Xylem Inc. came together to help clean up the plaza

It was our way of saying “Thank You”.
